FOLDERSERVER - private mail system

The customer's administrator is able to configure FolderServer to automatically remove attachments above a preset size in Outlook and send them more efficiently via FolderServer, thereby taking the load off existing email servers and the network. Folderserver is installed onto the customer's own server or servers and uses the customer's own connectivity to route the heavy data. For a completely private system, the software would be installed behind the DMZ thus preventing any use by non approved personnel. If installed in the DMZ it is possible to set up completely secure communications with approved supplier and customers.

Only authorised, authenticated users may send and receive data. No unauthorised data may enter or leave the system so it is not at risk from spam, viruses or other malware. Metadata about deliveries are filed with normal email so the user does not have to maintain two separate mail systems.

Enhances normal email

  • Folderserver integrates into Outlook for ease of use - no user learning is required.
  • Folders and attachments above a configurable size limit are stripped out of email and routed via Folderserver.
  • Relieves the email server and transfers data in the background reducing network peak loading.
  • Metadata about deliveries remain filed with normal email, so only one record need be maintained.

Secure

  • Only authorised and authenticated users may send and receive data. Two part authentication used.
  • Users outside the VPN may use Folderserver (subject to corporate policy).
  • Full logs are kept and complete transactions may be archived.
  • For additional security, data and control information may be separated on different servers, and data may also be split across multiple servers so no one server contains all the data needed to recreate a delivery.

End-user features

  • Works within Microsoft Outlook (2000 - 2003) for ease of use.
  • Background operation, so minimal loss of performance for other applications
  • Complete track and trace, full progress details, delivery completion notices and alerts provided.
  • Deliveries may be prioritised (no need to wait for a large delivery to complete before obtaining an urgent one).
  • Supports remote worker - works well over poor internet connections - deliveries are simply suspended when PC is stopped, and resume as soon as PC is reconnected to the internet.
