Security
Security is the major issue for most IT departments. For many organisations it is critical that data cannot be intercepted in transit and to manage what is sent by and to whom.

With Foldermail, data are made secure in transfer through use of innovative transfer technology. Data are encrypted end to end throughout transfer (unlike some web transfer based systems which use encrypted data transfer, but leave data unencrypted on internet servers). All data are backed up on multiple servers for resilience, and each dataset is split across multiple servers so that no one server contains all the information required to reconstruct a foldermail.

Users are authenticated using two part authentication. In normal use, however, the authentication is transparent to the user, and apart from a few operations, the user will not normally need to enter passwords. Foldermail can be interfaced to RSA key security modules.
Full logs of all activity are maintained, and users may elect to keep records of all data sent and received.

Foldermal communicates on ports 80 and 443, so in normal circumstances no changes to the firewall will be required and corporate firewall security will not be not compromised by using Foldermail.

Corporate users may invoke an advanced security model that is not available to users who set up subscription accounts using credit card. This enables much greater control over system configuration. It also allows the administrator to control to whom the user may send and from whom they may receive, as well as providing a mechanism for content control.
